Another beautiful fall engagement session with another beautiful couple in Vail and Boulder Colorado. Rich colors, amazing light… we could not ask for more.

Molly & Kevin had an intimate Boulder wedding with only family and a few close friends looking on. They recited their vows at Chautauqua Park with the flatirons looming in the background and toasted champagne under a setting sun. We made images around the parks trails, picking our way through the tall grass and stepping carefully around the cactus. Dinner downtown followed at Brasserie Ten Ten.
I think it is rare to find a couple like Sarah & Nick who compliment each other to a tee. They are artistic, easy-going and equally head over heels for one another. Their summer wedding at the Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater was really unique and these are the things that I’d like to remember…
The look of complete and utter joy when Nick saw Sarah for the first time and the proud hug, full of sadness, Sarah’s father gave Nick before he handed her hand to him. Their matching Adidas and pesky dragonfly that buzzed their heads the entire ceremony. A traditional Sabrage toast and bagpipe sendoff. These self-proclaimed “nerds” choosing comic books as favors and topping their cake with battling Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala figurines. The emotional, heartfelt speech given by Nick’s brother which brought beautiful tears streaming down the newlyweds faces. And finally the gorgeous, unassuming bride on guitar next to her overjoyed groom singing and playing the harmonica. It was a special day.
The stage was set for an outdoor wedding, in the lovely meadows at Wild Basin Lodge, but the typically unpredictable mountain weather brought rain just as the procession lined up. Despite the scramble for Plan B Nicole & Chris had a beautifully, intimate ceremony with only their families and a few close friends looking on.
I was only with the newlyweds for a brief time to capture their special day but thankfully the weather began to cooperate and we were able to wander around the fantastic grounds surrounding the lodge and make beautiful portraits full of perfect flat light, dramatic storm clouds and one blissfully happy couple.
Carol & Chris were married on the pool deck of Denver’s Westin hotel on one of the longest days of the year. The brilliant, late day, golden sunlight illuminated smiling guests who tried to cool themselves with blue and white fans on the hot summer day and the happy couple were so much fun to work with as we made portraits around the bustling 16th Street Mall. One of my favorite and most memorable parts of the day was during the reception when the father of the bride read a four page speech that had the entire room in stitches and the bride blushing with embarassment and love.
Thanks so much to Deseri at the Westin who did a beautiful job with the Augusta Room, decked out in Carol’s favorite shade of purple, and to DJ Jay Kacik with Standing Room Only who kept the guests on their feet.
