The foliage is at its prime in the mountains! Here are a few of my favorites from fall engagement sessions from the past. These photos were taken in Boulder, Vail and Beaver Creek Colorado. When the aspens peak here it is like the mountains are on fire!
Katie & John came out from Indiana to have their wedding at Lily Lake just outside of Estes Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. I met them briefly at Taharra Mountain Lodge for a few getting ready photos then we wandered around the lake making portraits before their tiny group of guests arrive. They had a beautiful day for their intimate wedding and I feel so honored to have spent a couple of hours with them documenting their simple and beautiful exchanging of vows.

Danielle & Mike had a beautiful, simple and intimate wedding at the Red Lion Restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. Another perfect day for this happy couple and their close knit family and friends. These two do NOT like to be the center of attention and I really felt honored they allowed me to come and photograph their very important day!

Today I finished editing my fifth family photo shoot with the Duncan family. Chris & Michelle have been my dear friends for over 10 years and every time I visit California I do a shoot with their beautiful daughters to try and thank them for all their wonderful hospitality. It’s been amazing to watch their little family grow. Their oldest, Kendall, is a chatterbox and so, SO, thoughtful, just like her momma. While two-year-old Reagan is clever, independent, and stubborn, just like her dada.
Our shoots began when Kendall was just a few months old, we did another when they visited Colorado around her first birthday and then I have done a shoot every year since. I can’t believe she is four already. This trip was great because even though it had been a full year since I had visited, Kendall remembered me and was instantly my little buddy again. Two-year-old Reagan is a bit more weary of “strangers” and took a little more time to warm up but by the end of my trip she was giving me her beautiful smile freely.
There are so many wonderful moments and memories I have of working with this family. Kendall resting her head on her father’s shoulder while he fixes the swing, stomping around in pink cowboy boots and dancing with fairy wings in her bedroom. I remember Reagan’s tiny feet in her mother’s loving hands, her bright pink, puckered lips and one-year-old meltdowns. Now she is spunky and constantly rebelling against clothing, always just in a diaper tugging on her ear while sucking on her thumb. Watching them move from the baby swing to sharing a big-girl swing hanging on to each other with such caring, precious, sisterly love is truly amazing.
Michelle is running out of wall space after all of our shoots. There is something really special about walking in to a home and seeing photos you made blanket the walls. I am so thankful I was able to be there to capture some of the special moments from these fleeting years.
Sometimes when I am around certain couples their love seems almost palpable. That’s how it was with Kate & Steve. The emotion was not only written all over their happy faces but you could feel it by just being near them. They got married on a beautiful March day up in Steamboat Springs and in typical Colorado fashion, the weather report was all across the board. They were predicting snow, sleet, rain and sunshine. Luckily sunshine prevailed and their outdoor wedding at Olympian Hall went off without a hitch. We also made photos at Fish Creek Falls and the adventurous couple were such good sports entertaining all my ideas and trekking through at least a foot of snow for the best angles. I always say how lucky I am to have worked with such awesome people and Kate & Steve just reinforce all the reasons why I love my job. Kind, humble, welcoming and hilarious, I didn’t just make photos, I made new friends.

First off, from joining us for our pre-meeting at a local brewery to donning on snow boots to hike up to Fish Creek Falls for our wedding party photos (sometimes in knee deep snow), Kira really embraced our relaxed snowy mountain wedding vibe. Her easy going personality made photos relaxing and fun for everyone.
And them we saw out pictures. They are all absolutely stunning. Every single one was saw was a “favorite.” Not only did she rock the wedding party photos, she also has an uncanny ability to blend into the crowd (our own photo ninja!) to capture the most amazing “little” moments throughout the wedding that were incredibly special. Her eye is amazing and she really “sees” people’s emotions in a beautiful way that shines through in all her photos. We really couldn’t recommend her enough!”
