Last month I met Sam, Eric and their giant dog Salis out at Wonderland Lake in Boulder, Colorado for an engagement portrait session. Working with such a large animal was super challenging and fun! Luckily, they planned ahead and had a friend come meet us so that she could wrangle the beast while we did some photos of the happy couple who just moved to Colorado and will marry next summer. Congrats Sam & Eric and welcome to Colorado!

Boulder Colorado Wedding Photography | Beatrix & Edwin
Beatrix & Edwin had an a amazing Boulder, Colorado wedding. Beatrix began the day being prepped and pampered at the St. Julien Hotel before she met her dashing groom on the deck at the Flagstaff House Restaurant. They had a perfect day and I had a blast capturing all the hugs and tears that were overflowing from the close group of family and friends they invited to the ceremony. We made photos with the Flatirons as our backdrop and even headed back to town to make a couple quick portraits with their dogs dressed also as a bride and groom. The night finished up at Edwin’s restaurant Radda Trattoria with delicious food and plenty of wild dancing to celebrate such a wonderful day.
Sweet words from a equally sweet bride:
“We felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with you seeing all your previous work and we were not disappointed. You captured our lives and most precious moments beautifully. Looking at the photos feels like we are living through that wonderful day again. Thank you Kira!”

Kate & Steve | Steamboat Springs Colorado Wedding
Sometimes when I am around certain couples their love seems almost palpable. That’s how it was with Kate & Steve. The emotion was not only written all over their happy faces but you could feel it by just being near them. They got married on a beautiful March day up in Steamboat Springs and in typical Colorado fashion, the weather report was all across the board. They were predicting snow, sleet, rain and sunshine. Luckily sunshine prevailed and their outdoor wedding at Olympian Hall went off without a hitch. We also made photos at Fish Creek Falls and the adventurous couple were such good sports entertaining all my ideas and trekking through at least a foot of snow for the best angles. I always say how lucky I am to have worked with such awesome people and Kate & Steve just reinforce all the reasons why I love my job. Kind, humble, welcoming and hilarious, I didn’t just make photos, I made new friends.
A few sweet words from the happy couple:
“Kira was a phenomenal photographer! We felt so lucky to have her photograph our wedding. First off, from joining us for our pre-meeting at a local brewery to donning on snow boots to hike up to Fish Creek Falls for our wedding party photos (sometimes in knee deep snow), Kira really embraced our relaxed snowy mountain wedding vibe. Her easy going personality made photos relaxing and fun for everyone.
And them we saw out pictures. They are all absolutely stunning. Every single one was saw was a “favorite.” Not only did she rock the wedding party photos, she also has an uncanny ability to blend into the crowd (our own photo ninja!) to capture the most amazing “little” moments throughout the wedding that were incredibly special. Her eye is amazing and she really “sees” people’s emotions in a beautiful way that shines through in all her photos. We really couldn’t recommend her enough!”

Mexico Wedding in the Riviera Maya | Travel Tuesdays
I absolutely love Mexico. I’ve only seen a fraction of the huge country but just completely adore everything about it. The beaches, the temples, the language, the yummy street tacos, the music… the list is long. Mexico is one of the very few places I have gone back to mutiple times. With so many places to see and so many things to do in this world, it says a lot that I have been back numerous times.
One of my favorite trips to Mexico was to photograph Kerra & Patrick’s destination wedding in the Riviera Maya. They were married on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Maroma Beach, at the all-inclusive resort El Dorado Maroma. The wedding was everything I imagined it would be and we even did a trash the dress session at a cenote near Playa del Carmen.
There is something special about the light in Mexico. Colors just seem more vibrant down there against the white sand beaches and crystal-clear water. They were an amazing couple to work with and I feel so fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to work in a country I love so much.

Winter Valentine’s Day Wedding on Skis! | Mountain Wedding Photos
A few years ago I was invited to a businesswomen’s networking event in Boulder and that is where I met Jennifer. I remember being totally amazed by her, she is super talented and has had a very interesting life (jazz singer, Russian translator, graphic designer), so I was super excited when she asked me to photograph her wedding.
Jennifer and Kevin did NOT want a traditional wedding and threw around all kinds of ideas looking to make their day unique and fun. All their hard work and planning paid off as they recited their vows on Valentine’s Day, in the middle of a blizzard, at the top of Loveland Ski Resort. Married on Valentine’s Day at a place called Loveland, how perfect!
Traditional, this wedding was not, ridiculously fun and adventurous it was! It was not an easy task, but the bold couple managed to get about thirty of their closest family and friends to the top of the mountain to watch them make it official. The father of the bride held the bouquet, they wore creative homemade bride and groom attire and were surrounded by other couples decked out in wild costumes reciting/renewing their own vows.
An afternoon of powdery skiing was followed by a wonderful house party in a beautiful Keystone mountain cabin where they shared delicious food and conversation and the musically gifted, jazzy bride entertained her guests long into the evening.
This wedding was such a challenge but totally worth it! I can’t help but giggle a little to myself when worried brides ask me how I will handle low lighting at a venue. I don’t just do a photojournalistic style, I am a photojournalist. I’ve been through the ringer while on assignments for newspapers and other news organizations covering raging house fires in the dead of night, trekking through water up to my knees during natural disasters, and held my own ground while hostile protesters shoved and pushed. Now I’ve shot a wedding in the middle of a blizzard, I can definitely handle some dim lighting! 🙂
A lovely testimonial from a lovely couple:
“When we approached Kira about photographing our winter wedding on skis, she was completely unfazed by our unusual request. In fact, she was really thrilled with the opportunity. She inspired great confidence in us from the get-go, thanks to her background as a staff photographer for the Vail Daily and her absolutely gorgeous portfolio of wedding photos set in the mountains. When the day came to shoot our Valentine’s Day mass wedding at Loveland Ski Area, we were almost swept away in a sea of complete chaos. But, Kira was highly professional and completely in control of the situation, making sure we got truly amazing magazine-quality shots that were better than we ever hoped. I highly recommend her to any couple looking for incredible wedding photos that truly capture the moment (and make you look absolutely beautiful). Plus, her kind, cheerful personality make her a delight to work with. We will cherish our photos for a lifetime. “
Check out some of Jennifer’s ventures, she is amazingly talented and lovely to work with!
